OPERATION PAYBACK: A RETROSPECT IN ANTI-LULZ

Operation payback, the revenge attack on behalf of Julian Assange and America trying to take out wikileaks (nevar), was announced LAST THURSDAY via various Twitter feeds and .jpegs posted up in all the usual places. Of course anons primary tactics boiled down to more DDOS attacks and the spamming of gore / racism / sexism / porn / anti-semitism and worst of all completely unfunny samefag forced-memes wherever possible. BUT just when you thought it was dead for ever OC appear! Albeit in an understandably cancerous and highly contaigous form. For the first time the DDOS came via an opt-in botnet (significant) and was also available in JS (javascript) browser-format meaning anyone smart enough to use Windoze explorer could LOIC! Even totally retarded Macfags could get involved AND the fucking thing worked on any mobile phone with supported browser software (Opera and windows andways). Nobody had ever seen this before, and what was once another chance for lazy tech bloggers to start banging on about 4chan again suddenly had journalistic merit (something wikileaks had inadvertantly made kewell again). Before long OVER9000 articles had been written regarding the whole project. Anonymous, delerious to be finally getting some attention went about turning the whole thing into a facepalming, cringworthy mess like all asspies do when they get a bit of attention, spouting stupid student-anarchist bullshit to the media via crappily made .jpegs, jewtubes and some IRL tripfag calling himself COLD-BLOOD (dox this faggot).

Inexplicably the PayPal blog was hit first with the site unavailable from around 4:00 PST the first night of the attack.

6/12/2010 – 12:00 PM PST,

Operation Payback got its act together and launched another attack on the actual PayPal site, taking the whole thing down completely, rendering it useless. Within a few hours of this their base of operations was down as well, presumably under a counter DDOS attack (j3st3r or the FBI). After this, things started to get way out of control, attacks were announced against several high profile finance sites, postfinance.ch was the first to go down, taking its place in internet history as the first financial insitution brought to its knees by a bunch of bored script-kiddies. Anonymous managed around 15 hours of total downtime. Anons own infastructure was still under heavy attack also, with all the usual places and IRC chatrooms being infiltrated and going down as soon as they went up until eventually vanishing completely from the internet along with the wikis and lots of people hard work (PRO-BONO).

THEN:

Over the weekend everydns.com, http://aklagare.se, Aklagare.se, Mastercard, Visa and http://lieberman.senate.gov, the first time a government owned site had been targeted by hackers, were also attacked, all resulting in several hours of downtime (lieberman.senate.gov was only down for one minute but it's still history). In retaliation most of the wikileaks mirrors, anonops.net, partyvan.info and some more sites we wont mention here were hit, most of these sites are still offline even at time of writing. Anonymous responded by attacking pretty much any site / individual that dared wade into the fracas with even Sarah Palins homepage experiencing attacks resulting in around 12 minutes of downtime (WINRAR).
The tit-for-tat attacks carried on into and over the weekend with some still happening now probably. For what it's worth, and those of you that actually read and bothered to read any of the WL cables (most are boring, some are LOL, they're cables so not too muc tl,dr) WL is still available via various mirrors and all the pay sites are back up and functioning again as of 13/12/10.
